Flake & Chip Epoxy Floor Systems San Antonio

Applications & Design Options
Flake systems are a decorative resinous flooring option that balances appearance with durability. Common applications include residential garages, workshops, utility areas, commercial spaces, showrooms, and selected service areas.
Design options include light blends, dark blends, gray blends, neutral blends, high-contrast blends, and custom visual combinations when supported. The blend is chosen to suit the space and the surrounding finishes.
Decorative flakes are broadcast into a wet coating layer as part of a complete coating system — they are not loose flooring material. The flakes become part of the sealed surface once the topcoat is applied.
Surface Preparation & Broadcast Process
Like any resinous flooring, a flake system depends on proper preparation. The slab is inspected, profiled, and repaired before the coating is applied.
- Concrete inspection — evaluating condition, cracks, and existing coatings.
- Mechanical preparation — grinding or profiling the surface.
- Repairs — addressing suitable cracks and defects.
- Base coat — applying the resin layer that holds the flakes.
- Flake broadcast — broadcasting chips into the wet base coat.
- Scraping / leveling — smoothing the flake layer where applicable.
- Vacuuming excess loose flake — clearing unadhered chips.
- Clear topcoat — sealing the system with a protective finish.
- Optional texture considerations — adjusting finish for traction where needed.
Dry Coats does not provide precise chemical ratios or unsafe DIY instructions. The system is installed by professionals who understand the products being used.
Full Broadcast vs Light Broadcast
The density of the flake broadcast changes both the look and the function of the floor.
Full broadcast applies chips densely until the base coat is covered, producing strong visual texture and a more uniform decorative appearance. Light or partial broadcast leaves more base color visible with a less dense chip distribution.
System design can affect appearance, texture, cleaning, and slip characteristics. Dry Coats does not state that flakes alone make a floor non-slip — anti-slip additives are available where traction is a concern.

Flake systems are popular for San Antonio garages, workshops, utility rooms, and commercial floors. The decorative finish helps conceal minor visual variation in the concrete, and the sealed surface stands up to vehicle and foot traffic and garage-door exposure.
